Kabaya Careme Jersey Milk Cookies

"Milk" seems to be a very popular flavor in Japanese snacks but it's hard, at least for me, to define exactly what its suppose to taste like.  Sometime it tastes like cream, sometimes milk, and yet other times vanilla. The Kabaya Careme Jersey Milk Cookies is leaning towards none of the above unfortunately.  I'm guessing these are based off of the Jersey Milk Candy that's also made by Kabaya, but I could never understand why Jersey?  Do they make better milk in Jersey?  Not sure...

I'm from Jersey!
Neatly packaged
These cookies come conveniently in individual wrapped packs, with 10 packs in each box. I was expecting something crunchy and buttery but instead the texture was soft and chewy.  The taste was neither milky nor creamy but more closely resembling that of sweet vanilla.  It tastes like if you made a cookie out of melted vanilla ice cream, if you can imaging such a taste.

Other ways of eating me!
The box comes with a few suggestions for using these cookies in other dessert recipes, which perhaps will enhance their flavor. When eaten alone I did not think it was anything spectacular, but their soft texture makes it a good choice for dipping in milk teas or coffees. Each cookie contains 51kcal,  2.7g of fat and 6.1g of carbs if you worry about that kind of things.  I would unfortunately say this product was slightly disappointing as I was hoping for something with a creamier and milkier taste.  Too bad.

Lipton Gold Instant Milk Tea 金裝奶茶

Not necessary a snack per se, but still something that goes well with a snack, we have the Lipton Gold instant milk tea 金裝奶茶:

Looks good to me!
Our last review was on a milk tea flavored snack, this time around we got the real thing.  Well sort of.  This instant tea mix comes to us from Lipton which of course are know for their various tea products.  This gold version of the milk tea mix is suppose to taste smoother and more aromatic than the regular version.   Unfortunately, it doesn't really live up to its "gold" label standards.

The product comes in individually packed satchels, each of which makes about a cup of milk tea.  The taste of this gold version doesn't really differ much from the regular version.  It doesn't taste anymore aromatic or smoother.  In fact, there is not much tea flavor in this and the entire thing tastes a bit bland.  The milk flavor is quite a bit stronger than the tea flavors, at times it feels like you're just drinking a sweetened milk drink instead of milk tea.

I'm slightly disappointing =(
Despite its gold label, this is just an average product.  The taste is nothing you would expect from a more premium product.  It's not bad in taste per se, just that I expected a lot more from this.

As always, let me know what you guys think!

Kabaya Special Afternoon Milk Tea Chocolate

Many of you might be very familiar with the Kirin Special Afternoon Milk Tea drink that is sold in most Japanese supermarkets.  It is a very popular drink in Japan and is a nice blend of traditional English tea with milk and sugar.  The taste is very rich and also quite sweet.  Kabaya came along and thought how can we make this taste even better and have it as a snack instead of a drink?  By combining the taste with chocolate of course!  Green tea flavored chocolates are a plenty but milk tea flavored?  This I must try!

Mmmm, milk tea and chocolate!

Riding the popularity of the drink, the logo of the Kirin Milk Tea takes up about 2/3 the real estate on the front of the box.  Large image of the chocolate itself takes up the rest.  An curious image of a jug of milk is also shown.  Is it to tell us the chocolates inside are milk chocolate or maybe that it's milk tea flavored?  We will never know...

8 of these in every pack

There are 8 individually wrapped pieces inside each pack.  The taste is a bit on the sweet side but you can definitely taste the milk tea flavors.  You would think adding rich milk tea flavors to a rich milk chocolate would make this snack almost too heavy and over the top, but in reality it actually tastes quite nice.  The milk tea flavors enhances the milk chocolate but doesn't add any heaviness to it.  The combination is a bit sweet but that could just be me.

There are 47 calories per piece with 3g of fat, 4g of carbohydrates, and 2g of sugar.   I got this for $2.99 at the local store but I've seen it go for as high as $7.99 online!   All in all, this is a great tasting chocolate with a strong and rich milk tea flavor.  Despite the components, it doesn't overpower your with richness or heaviness but strikes a good balance between milk tea and milk chocolate.   Try one and let me know what you think!

Yep, just like the picture on the box
